[UPDATED on 20210705] Special measures to extend the valid period of the COE due to the effect of COVID-19

Due to the effect of COVID-19, the Immigration Bureau of Japan has decided the special measures regarding the expiry date of issued Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

You can confirm this information on the website of the Immigration Office:

NOTE: You will need to attach a letter issued and signed by your visa sponsor (employer or organization/entity/person inviting you to Japan) explaining that you will engage in the same activity as submitted at the COE application when you apply for entry visa with the COE at the Japan Embassy or Consulate-General during that period above.

Here is the measures in case the COE has expired during specific period due to the effect of the COVID-19;
