[UPDATE] Special measures to extend the valid period of the COE due to the effect of COVID-19

(As of June 26th, 2020)

Due to the effect of COVID-19, the Immigration Bureau of Japan has decided the special measures regarding the expiry date of issued Certificate of Eligibility (COE).

[Those who obtains/applies for the COE]
The COE issued from October 1st, 2019 to January 29th, 2021 will be valid until the period below whichever comes first;

  • 6 months from the date that the entry restriction is lifted.
  • until April 30th, 2021

Please note that you will need to attach a letter issued and signed by your visa sponsor (employer or organization/entity/person inviting you to Japan) explaining that you will engage in the same activity as submitted at the COE application when you apply for entry visa with the COE at the Japan Embassy or Consulate-General during that period above.
