As of May 12th, the immigration office announces updates of special measures due to the effect of COVID-19 (coronavisus) as follows: Extension of the period for acceptance of applications Regarding Visa Status holders whose period of stay is expired in the period from March to July in 2020 (*), applications for Extension of Period of Stay or Change of Visa Status will be accepted until 3 months after expiry date of his/her current visa status. Refund of Withholding Tax for the Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments

After you receive Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments (年金の脱退一時金, the Payments) for your pension contribution during your stay in Japan, you can claim a refund of withholding tax which was deducted from the Lump-sum Withdrawal Payments. Amendment of “Guideline for Permanent Residency” (Amended on May 31st, 2019)

“Guideline for Permanent Residency” has been amended in May 31st, 2019. In this amendment, it is clearly written that “you need to have been adequately fulfilling public duties (duties such as the payment of taxes, public pension contribution and public health insurance contribution, as well as notification in accordance with the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act)”.
